Meet Adventurer, Katya Sovich!

Thu, Jun 1, 2017

“Adventurous” is both the keyword and modus operandi of our newest designer, Katya Sovich. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, she earned her M.A. degree in Linguistics and Cross-Cultural Communications at university there. But then she set off on two of her biggest adventures and changed both her career and her homebase: she is now happily married and ensconced in a graphic design career in Virginia – a world away.

Q: Coming to the U.S. was a quite an endeavor. How did that come about?

Ahoy There, Katie Parlin!

Tue, Jan 31, 2017

Katie Parlin, our newest Account Executive, comes to CSG with amazing credentials and, even better, a boat! She and her husband spend most weekends on their power boat relaxing and exploring Chesapeake’s waterways and history-rich towns while keeping a sharp eye on their toddler son. She is a Cum Laude graduate of SUNY Oswego, where she studied graphic design, and a graduate of the master’s program in Business Administration at the University of Washington. She has 10+ years of experience in integrated marketing campaigns, brand management, cross-functional communication and multidisciplinary teamwork – she’s ready to cruise right into the CSG waters.

A Fun and Innovative Way to Drive Trade Show Booth Traffic

Mon, Dec 5, 2016

There are a lot of ways exhibitors can drive engagement at their booth – but today, I wanted to share a genius idea I saw at LEND360 at their event in Chicago earlier this year.

As I was walking through the exhibit hall, I noticed that one of the exhibitors, DSi (Dragnet Solutions, Inc.) always had a line of people “waiting” outside their  booth. When I went to check in and see what they were offering (a free puppy perhaps), I realized that it was better than a free puppy. They had something far more engaging. caricature

How do you mash up?

Thu, May 5, 2016

The word “advertainment” continues our long social tradition of combining two unique words when we discover they support and/or magnify each other positively. This concept may have started years ago with “brunch,” long before we even knew we were “hangry,” and continues today to describe innovative changes across the social, political, and business spectrum. My personal favorite word mash-up refers to the delicious, soul-enriching merger between the terms chocolate and peanut butter, which has come to be known as “Reese’s.” 🙂 Red-Bull-Advertainment

Case Study: Expanding Event Audiences into New Market Segments

Fri, Feb 26, 2016

To learn from our strategic marketing campaigns, CSG Creative team members conduct a thorough post-show analysis after each of our events. We then often write up case studies on one or two challenges we faced during the campaign. This helps us understand how we can continue to improve and highlight our successes. This past Fall, the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) produced Gear Expo 2015, a show that continues to grow, but not without some critical thinking on all sides—operations, sales, marketing, customer service, and education, to name a few. Location, timing, market conditions, marketing campaign efforts, etc., must all work at peak efficiency to keep bringing in the crowds and exhibitors. Below is a snap shot from a case study from the marketing prospective.DSC_0505sm

Transforming hearts and grounds.

Fri, Sep 18, 2015

I was onsite on Friday helping @RuppertLandscape with media coverage of their Annual Field Day Event! It was a newsworthy event with Fox, channel 7, and channel 9 shooting footage for their broadcasts. ruperts1

In just one day Ruppert Landscape transformed the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, known locally as DC’s Old Soldier’s Home. “Field Day” is Ruppert Landscape’s annual community service day that enables the company and its employees to give back to the community, combining charitable giving, training and competition amongst branches. Since 1993, Ruppert Landscape has transformed the grounds of 26 DC Public Schools, Inman Field in Atlanta and Carroll Park in Baltimore.

Torpedoes of Inspiration

Wed, Jun 3, 2015

What do you do when you are a creative team and need some inspiration? There are many places, objects, projects, and activities that can provide inspiration. And while Pinterest is a favorite of many these days, sometimes you need to go outside and experience the world where you live.

Recently, CSG’s design team took a couple hours to seek out a little color inspiration at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, VA. TorpedoArt

The Torpedo Factory is a favorite place for locals and tourists to visit here in our neighborhood just outside of D.C. The Torpedo Factory inspires thousands and is a wonderful example of art taking the place of war. Founded in 1974 in an old munitions plant, it’s home to the largest collection of publicly accessible working artist studios in the U.S.

My three favorite innovative strategies from ISA Sign Expo 2015.

Tue, May 12, 2015

ISA Sign Expo 2015 took place in April at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas and it was another great event produced by the International Sign Association.

What I love about ISA Sign Expo is that every year they make sure to include new, exciting programs for their attendees.

That’s a great tip for everyone to remember! If you want repeat attendance, you need to make sure you add something new and of value to really entice people to come back or at least make sure they have a memorable experience.
