“Ripped from the Headlines”

As I headed down to New Orleans (my first time!) for AASA’s National Conference on Education (they’ve been a client for about 10 years – this was my third NCE), I had a profound realization. In 20 years of marketing, I’m not sure I’ve been to a more “timely” event. Less than one month prior, Betsy DeVos was confirmed as the nation’s new education secretary, after an intense political debate and ultimately a 50-50 vote in the Senate, with the Vice President serving as tie-breaker.

Too close or not too close? How do you handle the additional distractions of an approaching hurricane on your year-long, hard-planned trade event? Our client, the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference, faced the tough decision of whether or not to shut their show down early in Tampa this past October as Hurricane Matthew turned our media into a 24-hour hurricane watch and hundreds of thousands of Florida and East Coast residents evacuated their homes for safer shores. hurricane-matthew-path While Tampa was secure from the spiraling threat of the hurricane, a boating show such as IBEX was packed with both exhibitors and attendees who needed to get back to boarding their homes and evacuating their businesses and families.

In my last post (that would be Paht 1 of the NAA Bahston conference recap), I talked about some of the elements of what makes the National Apartment Association’s Education Conference & Exposition such a huge success year after year. Other than my illuminating and unparalleled messaging that persuades the masses to register immediately or they will become as outdated as the 8-track tape (for those born after 1980 you may need to Google what that means), NAA also delivers on product and customer service. All of these elements combined plus innovative thinking is what makes this event such a hit. The first five I discussed last time, so here are the rest.
