Production Professionals: Where Do You Find Your Inspiration?

Tue, Jan 5, 2016

Marketers are constantly tasked with coming up with fresh content to keep their client campaigns dynamic and on the cutting edge.

Designers are challenged with keeping creative “nouveau” and current with the latest color and typography trends.654-hall-of-dreams-2

And it’s no different for production professionals charged with making a client’s print collateral stand out from year to year. The copy may be spot on, the design may look stunning, but if the piece doesn’t get noticed in all the mailbox clutter, all could be for naught!

Instagram – Is it in your marketing toolbox?

Minions on their way to the Villian-Con. Marketers could get attendees to showcase their adventures.

From my agency experience, Instagram tends not to be one of the “go-to” channels for marketing and advertising efforts. Sure, it’s in the toolbox, but it certainly isn’t as heavily utilized as it should be. Why? As a Millennial, I can say my Instagram App icon is starting to burn a hole on my iPhone screen.  So why aren’t marketers jumping on this?

Aha to the AHI

Great pre-planning work by the IBEX team for its 2015 show!

One of the top reasons for attending the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) is for marine professionals to be able to meet up and network with one another. It’s their one trade event of the year focused solely on the industry side of recreational marine products, where their attentions are not split among consumers also browsing the show. To help attendees and exhibitors make the most of this opportunity, the IBEX team packed its 2015 show with AHI moments (after-hours interactions).ibex4

A little visual inspiration!

Are you tired of the same old brochures and reports with loads of copy? I mean, who wants to read all that anyway. There’s got to be a better way to illustrate important information.

There is! Infographics are a big trend right now! They can add a lot of visual interest to engage the reader.

I created this infographic in a brochure for NTP's new show, SpaceCom.

  • Use them in small amounts throughout a brochure to break up the copy
  • Use them on your web site to communicate specific stats or call outs

What fencing has to do with marketing, and other weird terminology you need to know.

Some days it feels as though cutting-edge marketing strategies shift as much as the sands on the beach. And while there are always tried and true fundamental marketing strategies that should never be abandoned, there are always unique twists and tactics we employ to increase engagement and close sales.

Some of you may be hearing your CSG account executives discuss various mobile and digital marketing strategies and shaking your heads at the Greek-sounding terminology. Below are just a few common terms with brief definitions you can use as a handy reference tool. And when I call you next week to discuss options for your next campaign, you can sound uber intelligent when telling me, “Hey Dawn, let’s try some geofencing for 2016!”

Research – With Attitude!

Tue, Jun 9, 2015

I recently had the honor of speaking at Trade Show Executive’s Fastest 50 program in Chicago. The Program honors the Fastest 50 growing trade shows in North America in categories such as attendance growth (congrats to our own IBEX who was ranked #2!), exhibit sales, net square feet growth, etc.

My presentation discussed an exciting and highly relevant research approach we’ve been using known as attitudinal segmentation. I definitely think we are on to something — the morning’s featured keynote speaker discussed the same type of segmentation methodology, which he referred to as “nodes.” I appreciated the “lay-up” for my own presentation! Thanks Nicholas Webb.

We’re all guilty of it — sorting through the mail and immediately tossing out the “junk” direct mail without so much as a glance in order to whittle down the pile to the “meat and potatoes” (e.g., bills, catalogs, personal correspondence, store coupons). So as a marketer, how do you keep your messages from becoming “junk” to becoming more “meat and potatoes?”

NAB Show 2015 registration is still climbing towards our milestone goal of 100,000 people and everyone here in D.C. is excited about not only reaching, but exceeding the goal.  Think about a group of 100,000 people – it’s like filling a giant college football stadium to its limits! Amazing!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a movie is worth a million.

This year at NAB Show we’re going the extra mile to capture the remarkable experiences and contagious energy which makes this show like no other. We’re equipping our event crews with steady cams, digital microphones and improved lighting, and have added aerial robotics capabilities (aka drones) and motion time-lapse video. Did you think movie stars had exclusive rights to looking cool on camera?  Think again, NAB Show participants.

What makes an effective web ad?

Wed, Mar 4, 2015

According to Google Adsense the most successful Web advertisement sizes are:

  • 336×280 Large Rectangle
  • 300×250 Medium Rectangle
  • 728×90 Leaderboard
  • 160×600 Wide Skyscraper

It can be a bit of an art-form trying to capture a user’s attention enough to pull them away from the content they came for, and getting them to engage is even trickier. That’s why it’s important to keep things clean, simple and obvious to the user as to “why” they should click that ad or at least take note of your messaging.
