And it’s no different for production professionals charged with making a client’s print collateral stand out from year to year. The copy may be spot on, the design may look stunning, but if the piece doesn’t get noticed in all the mailbox clutter, all could be for naught!

From my agency experience, Instagram tends not to be one of the “go-to” channels for marketing and advertising efforts. Sure, it’s in the toolbox, but it certainly isn’t as heavily utilized as it should be. Why? As a Millennial, I can say my Instagram App icon is starting to burn a hole on my iPhone screen.  So why aren’t marketers jumping on this?

One of the top reasons for attending the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) is for marine professionals to be able to meet up and network with one another. It’s their one trade event of the year focused solely on the industry side of recreational marine products, where their attentions are not split among consumers also browsing the show. There is! Infographics are a big trend right now! They can add a lot of visual interest to engage the reader.

I recently had the honor of speaking at Trade Show Executive’s Fastest 50 program in Chicago. The Program honors the Fastest 50 growing trade shows in North America in categories such as attendance growth (congrats to our own IBEX who was ranked #2!), exhibit sales, net square feet growth, etc.

My presentation discussed an exciting and highly relevant research approach we’ve been using known as attitudinal segmentation. I definitely think we are on to something — the morning’s featured keynote speaker discussed the same type of segmentation methodology, which he referred to as “nodes.” I appreciated the “lay-up” for my own presentation! Thanks Nicholas Webb.

We’re all guilty of it — sorting through the mail and immediately tossing out the “junk” direct mail without so much as a glance in order to whittle down the pile to the “meat and potatoes” (e.g., bills, catalogs, personal correspondence, store coupons). So as a marketer, how do you keep your messages from becoming “junk” to becoming more “meat and potatoes?”

According to Google Adsense the most successful Web advertisement sizes are:

  • 336×280 Large Rectangle
  • 300×250 Medium Rectangle
  • 728×90 Leaderboard
  • 160×600 Wide Skyscraper

It can be a bit of an art-form trying to capture a user’s attention enough to pull them away from the content they came for, and getting them to engage is even trickier. That’s why it’s important to keep things clean, simple and obvious to the user as to “why” they should click that ad or at least take note of your messaging.
