To learn from our strategic marketing campaigns, CSG Creative team members conduct a thorough post-show analysis after each of our events. We then often write up case studies on one or two challenges we faced during the campaign. This helps us understand how we can continue to improve and highlight our successes. This past Fall, the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) produced Gear Expo 2015, a show that continues to grow, but not without some critical thinking on all sides—operations, sales, marketing, customer service, and education, to name a few. Location, timing, market conditions, marketing campaign efforts, etc., must all work at peak efficiency to keep bringing in the crowds and exhibitors. Excited attendees, thrilled exhibitors and intrigued media — that’s what our client, The Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade ShowSM (SHOT Show®) and Conference, achieved at their show this past January.

With a packed, sold-out show floor and an exhibit wait list that often takes years to gain show entry, the SHOT Show discovered a unique, very successful way to introduce new exhibitors, the NEXT Pavilion. This kiosk pavilion was simple with no booths, no set-up and no large product shipments. Instead, it included a table top, exhibitor logo sign and a salesperson.

IAAPA Attractions Expo 2015 was the place to be to source what’s new, learn about what’s trending now, and get ready for what’s next in the attractions industry.

The show did not disappoint – the second largest show in IAAPA history brought together more than 32,900 attendees from more than 120 countries.IMG_4023

Great pre-planning work by the IBEX team for its 2015 show!

One of the top reasons for attending the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) is for marine professionals to be able to meet up and network with one another. It’s their one trade event of the year focused solely on the industry side of recreational marine products, where their attentions are not split among consumers also browsing the show. To help attendees and exhibitors make the most of this opportunity, the IBEX team packed its 2015 show with AHI moments (after-hours interactions).ibex4

I was onsite on Friday helping @RuppertLandscape with media coverage of their Annual Field Day Event! It was a newsworthy event with Fox, channel 7, and channel 9 shooting footage for their broadcasts. ruperts1

In just one day Ruppert Landscape transformed the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, known locally as DC’s Old Soldier’s Home. “Field Day” is Ruppert Landscape’s annual community service day that enables the company and its employees to give back to the community, combining charitable giving, training and competition amongst branches. Since 1993, Ruppert Landscape has transformed the grounds of 26 DC Public Schools, Inman Field in Atlanta and Carroll Park in Baltimore.

When you think of trade shows, your mind may immediately wander to information, education or free samples. However, more and more trade shows are now emphasizing the all-important category of networking. After all, connecting with one’s peers can be a vital part of being successful in business.

I recently had the honor of speaking at Trade Show Executive’s Fastest 50 program in Chicago. The Program honors the Fastest 50 growing trade shows in North America in categories such as attendance growth (congrats to our own IBEX who was ranked #2!), exhibit sales, net square feet growth, etc.

My presentation discussed an exciting and highly relevant research approach we’ve been using known as attitudinal segmentation. I definitely think we are on to something — the morning’s featured keynote speaker discussed the same type of segmentation methodology, which he referred to as “nodes.” I appreciated the “lay-up” for my own presentation! Thanks Nicholas Webb.

ISA Sign Expo 2015 took place in April at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas and it was another great event produced by the International Sign Association.

What I love about ISA Sign Expo is that every year they make sure to include new, exciting programs for their attendees.

That’s a great tip for everyone to remember! If you want repeat attendance, you need to make sure you add something new and of value to really entice people to come back or at least make sure they have a memorable experience.
